The Race Club World Team swimmers have used a product we now have available for sale called Liquid Oxygen. We have used this product since 2000 and believe that has a beneficial effect on athletic performance. So what is it?
First of all, it is not truly liquid oxygen, but rather oxygen gas suspended in a liquid. Most people believe that the only way humans can get oxygen to the cells is through the lungs. After all, we are not fish with gills. Well, not quite. Actually, we do have the capability of absorbing oxygen through our mucous membranes (under the tongue and in the gastrointestinal tract) in small quantities.
Most of the oxygen transported to our cells arrives via the hemoglobin molecule contained within the red blood cell. However, the part of the blood that is not red blood cells, called the plasma, is also capable of carrying oxygen and may transport as much as 5% of the available oxygen to the cells.
Studies have shown that the absorption of oxygen through mucous membranes into the plasma is known to occur. How much oxygen can be absorbed in this manner depends on the quantity and type of oxygen that is suspended in the liquid. Some forms of oxygen compounds are much more easily absorbed than others.
The company that produces The Race Club Oxygen has a proprietary method of producing a virtually new molecule called Quad atomic oxygen, which is essentially 04. 02 is well known to us from the air we breathe and 03 is known as ozone. 04 appears to be the active ingredient in our product, which readily releases the extra oxygen into the plasma.
There are many companies selling products that are so called liquid oxygen. Virtually all of the others bind the oxygen to salts forming oxychlorine or some other form of oxyhalogen. These compounds drive up the pH levels (alkaline) to potentially toxic levels. The pH of our product remains very close to neutral , which means it is the safest product to ingest.
For use, we recommend one take 15 to 30 drops of the Race Club liquid oxygen and hold it under the tongue for 30 seconds, then swallow. Take it directly from the bottle rather than placing it first in a spoon or other liquid, as the oxygen may be released into the air. It should be taken approximately 15 minutes before competition or practice and then again afterward to help recovery.
I have included on our website the studies on this product that have been made available to us for your review. There may be additional benefits of taking the product besides increasing oxygen in the bloodstream, such as capillary dilatation, lowered blood pressure, decreased lactate production and increased VO2 max, but the studies are not yet conclusive. For now, I am satisfied with the results that I personally feel and that our World Team athletes are reporting and knowing that the product is safe.
Yours in Swimming,
Gary Sr.
